a writing experiment {take 2}

In between studying Chinese, practicing Chinese, hanging out with friends, teaching English at the Rock and preparing my week-long teaching on “The Cost of Discipleship” for the DTS, the right side of my brain on occasion needs some “All right-side” activity. A while ago I posted a blog called “A Writing Experiment“remember that one?  I decided I wanted to do that again, so…I sat down yesterday and made another poetry smash (I just became about 30 percent more nerdy when I said poetry smash…and then an additional 70 percent when I started using “percentages”)

So remember, this is how it works…

You write 3 quick, 5 line “poems/writings” using 3 different topics

Here are the Topics:

1. Money

2. Knowing your loved by Jesus

3.  Songwriting

So, without looking at the other paragraphs, I wrote 3 lines as quickly as I could about each topic. Then, I took one line from each paragraph and merged them into one paragraph…here is what happened….

And I will choose what is most valuable and most precious

I will lean my head on your chest until your heart beat becomes my song

And it will, it always does, sometimes…it just takes a while.

For there can only be one choice, one slave, one servant

I have never known a love so deep and a pursuit so persistent

And then it comes, the words, the song, the passion

You must choose, who is it that you will love

I remember, it was the nails in your feet that pierced the longing in my heart

I know not what to say or sing or strum

Do we believe in the value or the cost?

For it was the death in your blood that brought life into my veins

And oh how I love sitting with you and waiting for it all to begin.

The breakdown

(The 3 different colors represent their topic. Originally, I wrote 4 lines on each topic. I then took one line from each paragraph and weaved them into each other, creating this…)

Green: Money

Blue: Knowing you’re loved by Jesus

Purple: Songwriting
